Above are the average team improvements made from week 1 to week 8.

Change of direction training isn’t overrated, it’s misunderstood.
The goal isn’t to perfect ladder drills and cone drills, it’s to develop the traits that actually make you agile. Acceleration, deceleration, body control, and reaction.

In my opinion, the best form of change of direction training is playing the sport or training for the sport itself because that’s where the real reactions, chaos, and decision making happen.

The most effective way to exert force is in straight lines.

In acceleration that involves the foot behind the hip and the shoulders in front of the hip (roughly a 45° angle).

In max velocity or top speed that involves the foot, hip, shoulders stacked vertically.

These positions allow us to get the full force output in each ground contact.

Any extra bend of the knee or collapse of the hip or torso is an energy leak that keeps us from reaching our true speed.

A few differences compared to the acceleration phase are:
- Posture
During acceleration were horizontal and max velocity is vertical
- Leg action

Acceleration happens in the ground. The goal isn’t to move your feet as fast as possible. Instead we’re looking for strong and forceful ground contacts. “Fast feet” tends to cause more vertical ground contacts making it harder to push out and shorten our acceleration phase.

A lot of people talk about knee drive and getting your knees up, but the purpose of knee drive is to set you up for a powerful strike under your hips. That’s where you put the most force into the ground, and that force is what moves you. When athletes focus too much on just throwing the knee up, they often break posture, strike in front of the hips, and loose power because they’re chasing high knees and fast feet instead of real force. Think of knee drive as a helper, not the goal.

Kyle Britton boosted his top speed by 0.6 mph in just 3 weeks, breaking the 20 mph barrier.

Mike Walsh tested strong, hitting 19 mph on his first day of testing.
